Things to do before the end of July....

(Here is Miss Audrey Anne "helping" me with the laundry. She climbs in the laundry basket whether it is full or empty. She is my little shadow, and oh dear is she in for a big surprise coming in 6 weeks or so..................)

Ok, I just noticed on my trusty little Lillie Pie baby tracker, that I have 44 or so days left before baby Noah arrives. That kinda scared me. I had all these big plans of what I would do before he came. But, I did not plan on the daily things taking all my energy and motivation. You know: the laundry, the cooking, the chasing of Little Miss Mess Maker herself. Oh, and breaking up a fight or two a day is making me even more tired. How many times have I told my kids: "Well, ok then. If you want to fight all summer, let's cut it short and start back to school tomorrow!". They gasp in horror and ask their Daddy at bedtime after I have already shuffled up the stairs, if they are really doing school tomorrow???!!! I don't even have their books for next year, sheesh. But oh, I could find something for them to do!!! Speaking of things to do, I MUST:

  • Get this year's journals bound at a copy store for each child. I love the idea of binding their illustrated journals so they will always have it to look at. I need to get their journals ready for fall, as well! They write in them nearly every day, or else they can write a letter to someone to mail.

  • Get their handwriting workbooks printed and ready to go. I am going to make my own this year, for the most part. I want to have them copy scriptures mostly, or other neat quotes I come across.

  • Work out my plan for history and science. I like to have goals for how far we will go each month so I can finish by the end of the year. We will be doing year 2 of US history, from the Civil War on. I am trying a new science program this year: Apologia! We are starting with Zoology 1 and I am anxiously awaiting it's arrival.

  • Basically I need to have everything school-wise all in order so when I am ready to start back at it, everything is organized.

  • I need to give the infant carseat a good scrubbing.......there are a few mushed up crackers and whatnot here and there. Maybe the kids can help with this????!!!!

  • I need to take the kids to the pool a time or two. Did you know they have nachos there? Yummy!

  • Make another baby boy blanket. Where did all my blankets I used with Seth go? Not sure, but I don't have any besides the one I made last week. I also like the single layered flannel ones for newborns; do you know what I am talking about? Perfect for swaddling. Eeee, I can't wait! Newborns are so sweet!!!!!

Well, now that I have it written down, it seems doable. I am trying a new reader for each of my kids this year and I will post about that as soon as it comes. I do love planning for our new school year. I know some homeschooling families that keep going all summer long and I sometimes I feel like I should keep going as well, and just take more breaks during the school year. But, to me, summer is for playing, swimming, eating watermelon, just enjoying the season! I know myself well enough to know I...need....a....break. To do a craft at 9am if I want to. To mess around on the computer all morning long if I so desire. I need time to ponder, and plan our upcoming year. We still go to the library and get books to read and I might require a math worksheet every now and then. But for the most part, I want my kids outside playing in the summer sun, and I want to be there with them. Oh, and I want to get a Slurpee or two whenever the mood strikes us. We better get going..........

It sounds like you have a lot of fun stuff to get done before that cute baby arrives. I have the sling I will bring when we come to visit in a few weeks. Can't wait to see you.
